Mrs. Cruise has landed a major brand ambassador gig as the new face of luxury jewelry company H. Stern. But, as is often the case in jewelry ads --- and sometimes fashion ads -- she's showing way more skin than jewelry.

There have been a string of Oscar De la Renta expansions of late, although the most unexpected comes in the launch of a partnership with rapper Dr.Dre on a pair of lavish designer headphones which double up as earmuffsCurrently featuring on the "new arrivals" section of the Oscar de la Renta website, the fluffy "luxe silver fox" earmuffs surround a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones. Retailing at $695, this limited edition item is one of de la Renta’s extravagant partnerships.

 

 

 

Marc Jacobs has firmly closed the lid on the past rumors of a move to Christian Dior explaining he still has "so much more to do"at LouisVuitton. Speaking to British newspaper The Telegraph January 9, Jacobs readdressed past reports he would be replacing former head designer John Galliano at Dior, after the latter was dismissed in March 2011 following his arrest at a Paris bar for racist and anti-Semitic behavior. While Jacobs was flattered to be considered by LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault for the position, the designer reaffirmed his status at Louis Vuiton, arguing he still has plenty of ambitions for the fashion house he has helmed since 1997.

 

 

 

 

The legendary jewelry and fashion collections of Elizabeth Taylor, the so-called "Crown Jewels of Hollywood," went on glittering display Thursday in New York ahead of a hotly anticipated auction. The actress, who died in March at the age of 79, had seven husbands during her glamorous life, countless admirers and a passion for jewelry. The exhibition at Christie's auction house in Manhattan is the last stop on a world tour highlighting Taylor's treasures -- and the first and last time that the entire collection will be gathered in one place.

 

Thousands of people have already bought tickets to the 10-day public viewing, which only starts Saturday. The auction will then run from December 13-16, offering pieces like the 33.19 carat Diamonds given to her by husband Richard Burton in 1968, and estimated to sell for between $2.5-3.5 million.

 

 

When Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti realized the dreaming had gone out of fashion, they quit to create a new dream. “The nature of fashion today has taken creativity from the designers. In fashion today, there is not enough dreaming,” Giammetti said. “We left fashion because the dreams were not there anymore,” he said of the duo’s “retirement” in September 2007. Instead, “we can capture dreams with our vision.” Their vision is the Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum, the first digital museum of its kind that offers a rare and up close view into the designer’s archive, which spans over 45 years.

 

The museum was unveiled by Valentino and Giammetti at a press conference on December 5. The two were joined by guest speaker Franca Sozzani, Hugh Jackman (for the virtual ribbon-cutting), host Anne Hathaway, fresh from the December 4 Kennedy Center Honors in Washington D.C. (she admitted to pulling an all-nighter), and a room full of journalists at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The downloadable fashion museum—the first of its kind—is designed and set up to look much like a wing at MoMA: airy spaces, pristine white walls, various rooms housing everything Valentino. Using real time 3-D technology, the desktop application provides an extremely lifelike experience. No sooner has the Versace for H&M collection arrived than the Swedish mass retailer is plotting its next partnership: This one withConsuelo Castiglioni of Marni. The Italian label will collaborate with H&M on a Spring collection for men and women, including accessories, shoes, scarves, and jewelry. The retailer promises all-over prints, bold color, and classic Marni silhouettes, including full pleated skirts, dresses, and cropped pants.

 

 “I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favorite pieces in signature fabrics and prints. As always, I love juxtaposing prints and colors, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus graphic and adding sporty utilitarian elements,” Castiglioni said in a statement. The collection will be available in over 250 H&M stores and online March 8, 2012.

At the Galerie Courbe in the Grand Palais in Paris, Karl Lagerfeld prsented the Chanel extravaganza, Indian-inspired fashion show as guests dined on opulent 'runway' feast fit for royalty.But the event was tinged with a touch of sadness as couturier Francois Lesage, head of the renowned embroidery atelier acquired by Chanel in 2002, died last week, aged 83. But as usual, the show must go on - and go on it did. Guests dined using gold-plated cutlery and were served by waiters throughout the show - a far cry from the champagne and canapes usually served. Models, adorned with accessories including head-jewellery and turbans - also for men - walked the epic runway sporting the 2012 pre-fall collection.
